                                        Frequently Asked Questions

                                        What is the 'Pitch'?

'Pitch' refers to the steepness of your roof between the eaves and apex (the top and the bottom.) This is commonly displayed as an angle, such as 10°, and will impact which roof tiles you can use and how you are required to fit them.

Why Does Roof Pitch Impact Which Tiles I Can Use?

Because of how shallow they are, low pitched roofs cannot shed water easily. This increases the likelihood of capillary action, where water finds its way into your roof space through the narrow gaps between tiles. That’s why we stock our innovative range of tiles for low pitched roofs, as they’ve been rigorously tested and proven to withstand the unique requirements of a shallow pitch. Bear in mind that you may need to fit these tiles differently, such as increasing the headlap.

What is Considered a 'Low Pitch'?

The majority of homes in Britain will have a roof with a pitch between 18° and 26°. Roofs with a pitch of 14° or lower are considered “low pitch”. If your roof’s angle is below 9°, you won’t be able to use roof tiles and will instead need to use a low pitch roofing sheet

Why Are Low Pitch Roof Tiles Either Metal or Plastic?

Heavier roof tiles such as those made from slate or concrete generally require a pitch of 25° or more. Steeper roofs are also stronger structurally. Therefore, only lightweight materials such as metal and plastic are suitable for low pitched roofing projects. Thankfully, these products don’t sacrifice aesthetics, strength or longevity, often lasting well over 40 years.
