                              Frequently Asked Questions

How Do You Cut Plastic Corrugated Roofing?

Cutting a corrugated plastic sheet is actually a very simple process, and doesn’t require any specialist tools to do yourself. Always remember to wear adequate protective clothing and consult the manufacturer’s guidelines before beginning any work.

                              1. Use a straight edge and a felt-tip to mark a line across the PVC sheet where you’d like to cut.
                              2. Use a circular saw with a carbide blade to cut along the line you’ve just drawn.
                              3. Use an emery cloth along the edge you’ve just cut to smooth it out.

                              What is PVC Roofing?

PVC or polyvinyl chloride is a uniquely tough yet low-cost material. As well as roofing materials, it is often used in delivery packaging, wire insulation, and more. It’s really a wonder material!

One downside to PVC historically has been its tendency to discolour. But today brands such as Vistalux have stopped this with unique UV-resistant formulations. Allowing you to enjoy unfiltered daylight for several years.

Whilst you may not want PVC roofing on your home itself, it's a great choice for outbuildings. This includes carports, pergolas, lean-tos, and more where allowing daylight through without spending too much is important.

Where Can Plastic Roofing Be Used?

Plastic roofing sheets can be used on both residential and commercial projects. Of course, they are a great option when reroofing gazebos, carports, and other shelters. But they can also be effective rooflights for sheds, garages, and even warehouses.

Unlike most other roofing materials, corrugated PVC is very lightweight. This allows you to use it on a wider range of structures, such as those made from timber that would struggle to handle heavier materials such as steel.

How Long Will PVC Roofing Last?

Whilst these sheets will typically provide a minimum life expectancy of 10 years, they will often last more than 20 years. This has been extended in recent years due to brands such as Vistalux using UV-resistant formulations that prevent discoloration.

Throughout their use, these sheets will require little upkeep. This is as when fitted at the right angle, rainwater should help most debris flow off. You may, however, benefit from giving your sheet a wipe with a damp cloth at the end of each season.
